Can anyone recommend any web log analyzers that run on OS X?

check out analog & Webalizer.
Haven't tried to set them up on OS X yet - but the versions are there.

I was running Analog 5 under OS X for my DynDNS account for some time. I set up cron to run Analog every night at 2 AM, so the webmaster can visit a password encrypted page at http://www.yoururl.com/stats/ and view the updated stats. It ran automatically and very well ... gives you a lot of information too.

I remember having to fitz around with the analog.cfg file, though, so be prepared to fiddle a bit. Once you get it running it works like a charm, though.

good luck

Is there a way for me to watch the OSX log in realtime, as I've enjoyed for years with the WebStar monitor window open? Before the switch to OSX I loved to look over at my server and watch visitors click through my site.

To pcp_ip

I don't know the answer to your question, but I have a question to you.
I am thinking about hosting a web site (also ftp and mail server) and I have to choose between Webstar and OS X Server. Since you used both can you tell me why did you switch to OS X? How do you like it? Is OS X Server much better? I know this is OS X forum, so maybe you will e-mail me instaed of starting a war here. BTW I am also from NYC. My e-mail is: ingalaxynet@yahoo.com
Thanks.

Open a terminal window and type

tail -f <full path to log file here>

this will 'follow' the log file as it's being written to. You can also use an application called BetterConsole, or Desktop Console, to do much the same thing.

I'm finding apache in OSX a lot faster at servering pages than WebStar was for me. It's also a breeze to install perl scripts, php and mysql... which i guess could be done with Webstar, but can't imagine it was as easy or as cross platform. i'm really pysched about having a full blown apache server to develop on locally... loading my work up on my laptop (running OSX as well) and being able to write and test scripts with a functioning server while flying cross country is a dream come true.

now if i could only get carbonized versions of my adobe apps, I'd be in heaven

There is simply no contest between Webstar and Apache. Apache is much, much faster. Even more important (and I speak from bitter, bitter personal experience) Apache is far more stable than Webstar. You can improve the speed and reliability of Webstar by using multiple servers and then using a QuickDNS from Men and Mice to switch between them when one server is busy or dead, but Apache under OSX (or even better, FreeBSD) is still more stable, speedy, expandable, and - best of all - comes at a much better price.
