I used the following tags

a href="downloads/data.XLS">Excel spreadsheet"</a>
<a href="downloads/data">Appleworks spreadsheet"</a>

How do I get the Appleworks spreadsheet to download instead of being translated in the browser.?

The link works fine for the excel spreadsheet. I click on it and it automatically downloads. When I try the link for the Appleworks spreadsheet nothing downloads and I get what appears to be a poorly translated page in the web browser. I have tested with Netscape and IE and the same things happen.

All AppleWorks documents should end in '.cwk'. This should solve the problem.

I tried extension .cwk and also added the extension to file exchange and made option to save to file and the browser still tries to translate the document. Any other suggestions?

Drop the file onto the program "DropBin" before uploading it. If you want the program (under 100kb), email me, and I'll tell you more.

Thanks for the info. I still had valid trial of the program Drop Stuff. Once I stuffed it to a .sea.sit it worked.

Wasn't actually what I meant, but a viable work around. What I meant was the program "DropBin" (freeware, yay!), which will make the file download just like the excel file (works for all files too not just AW, like if you want to download a jpeg, not open in a new window).

And it is completely transparent to the user too, unlike the .sea which needs extracting. If you are interested I will emailo dropbin to you.
