I'm making the website for the department I work for here at my college. I had a starting point off someone else's work but I chose not to use it because I don't like the design. However, my boss created the initial logo (see below) and wants me to use it. I don't like it and I don't think it would fit into what I've done, but before I tell him so, I'd like opinions.

First, his logo.
<img src="http://www.gacmug.org/medser/design2/graphics/media.png" alt=" - " />

It's not that bad. I just think what I'm using fits a little better. Now, the two designs. I'd like opinions on both. I think I've made a big improvement but I'd like feedback as well.

<a href="http://www.gacmug.org/medser/design2/mediaservices.html" target="_blank">What I had to work with</a>
<a href="http://www.gacmug.org/medser/design1/index.html" target="_blank">My redesign</a>

Thanks for the help. BTW, keep in mind that both are works in progress. The first link hasn't been touched in a while and I doubt it ever will, and the second link is what I'm working on.

OMG that 'montage' takes the cake!

I like where you're going with the nav panel - both clean and interesting.

The reworked logo is better, but I can't say the yellow glow does anything good for it. I realise you're using it as a visual link from the old logo (which is hideous - never NEVER bevel and dropshadow Times! I can see why you hate it too).

What was the significance of the three crowns? Perhaps you could create a flat graphic approach to these that has a close relationship with the 'Media Services' logotype and tweak the yellow so it's less lemon and more gold.

Interesting to see what you do with the rest of the homepage.

Good luck convincing someone that their own-designed logo is crap. It's never an easy task
Computer thez nohhh...

My roommate and I sat down with my design and came up with something I feel is much better than I had.

<a href="http://www.gacmug.org/medser/design3/index.html" target="_blank">Check out Design 3</a>

I think it'll be easy enough to not use my boss' logo. It just doesn't fit and I think he'll have to agree with that. On this new design, imagine the stuff on the right staying on the right, dynamically changing with the page. That's what I'll do when it's not a quick export from PhotoShop.

Thanks for the help.

both designs you've created kick ass while the other one isn't as clean and uses frames with a heavy, cumbersome format.

as for the logo: forget it! If you use that ugly logo on your page, i'll just have to hack into your server and replace it.
Can I have that cookie?
