A colleague is working on a web site. The problem is, the fonts look fine on Windows browsers and IE 5 Mac, but on Netscape they're too small.

Is there a way to get these fonts to show up properly on either browser, by detecting the browser/platform and adjusting accordingly?

If you could point me in the right direction, I'd be grateful.

Thanks![/LIST]

My guess is that you're defining absolute font sizes using points. Windows assumes 96 dpi while the Mac assumes 72 dpi (this is why it used to be true WYSIWYG and is better for desktop publishing). Therefore, 12 point text is relatively small on the Mac and quite large on the PC. IE 5 for Mac implements a 96 dpi rendering solution by default (as does Mozilla, IIRC), so sites look the same for Mac and Windows. However, people who customize their prefs to 72 dpi or use other browsers will see different results. I'd recommend you define font sizes only with relative units. This is adaptable to all platforms, and also all users (e.g., those with poor vision who want huge fonts). If you *must* treat the Web like print and insist on defining appearance exactly, use pixels instead of points, and you might get better results.
