I'm working on a personal homepage, and I'm toodling around with the design. I've actually taken one main design and brought two very different color schemes to it--one very summery, almost caribbean, and one dark and fall-like.

I've really done the two schemes for variety's sake, but I'm not sure how or if to use them both. A possible idea is to try to use javascript to check the clock of the browser: If it's between 7am and 7pm, it displays the summer colors. 7pm to 7am it shows the fall colors. Or simply have two entry points from the splash page so that you can go in whichever you like. I'm not entirely sure that I have or want to create enough content to make two separate sites. I do wonder, though, how much the colors impact the way you read content..

Anyway, I'm gonna post a little readme and jpgs of the splash page, and the two schemes in the public folder of my idisk (pennockpass). questions, comments, let'em fly.

IMHO, if you use two color schemes, the overall design of the site should be very alike, because (in case of most sites) you'll want the visitors to be able to navigate easily around, which can be done if you use the same basic design and only different colors. If the user doesn't recognize some overall design points when (if) the return, they'll be more likely to think they've gone wrong and go away.

I put too many steps in to get people there. You can see the site design right here

The design is very similar for both, but not exactly the same, just for variety's sake.

Good to see the examples.
I think it works fine; you'll definitely notice the change in between the visits, but at the same time feel "confident", as the overall design is alike.
My personal approach would be just to make a random instead of checking the system clock, so people will experience the difference.

Good luck!
Peter
