Man, I feel like I'm always on here looking for help. Guess I'd ask less often if I found it.

Here's the scoop. I'm a writer, planning to open a site that basically does commentary on "As the Apple Turns." Now if you've been to AtAT you'll know that they don't bill themselves as being "real" news. Which is precisely why I'm doing this. To provide "insider" coverage of AtAT, the daily polls, plus fake behind-the-scenes stories and other conspiracy theory stuff about AtAT and Apple stuff in general. I've talked to Jack at AtAT, and he's excited about the idea. I'm excited about producing the content.

But then there's the site itself. I enjoy doing graphics and layout stuff, which for me is mostly just doodling and seeing what I can come up. HTML/scripting stuff, honestly, isn't something I want to learn and use all the time. I mean, I know some basics. But it's not where my skills lie, and I'm okay with that.

It'd be cool to find someone with web chops who'd like to build a site but doesn't have content or a strong idea to make it happen. I'd be happy to have a partner to split the burden of keeping the place running, as well as what benefits may come from ads.

I know that's a little vague, but if you'd like to build a real site to put on your resume or just have space to doodle around with and create something cool, post or email me. There are a lot of distractions out there on the web. Let's make a few more.

If you need someone to do back-end/programming/database stuff while you do the front end art stuff then I'm game.

Interesting....

There are heaps of open source web application environments - macnn.com uses one, Slashcode is another....

I'm hacking together one using PHP/MySQL on Debian GNU/Linux (to give credit where credit is due) and so I'm conversant with the issues.

If you need help/advice or someone to hack parts of the site then I'd be interested to help out for sure.

[Edit: - send me a private mesage]

Raman, you're actually the third reply I've received on this, so I'm trying to talk to people in order, just to have some way of going about things. Not trying to ignore you at all; give me a couple days and hopefully I can get back with you.

I know there are a lot of resources out there, but I just don't have the time or interest to sift through all of them and come up with something that works. I know it can be done, but I don't want to do it that way. This is a "do it right or don't do it at all" venture, and this is the best route I see of getting there..

I'd like to help because I always have similar projects like this on my own , but it is hard to get done with just myself(I usually can't find people to help) and I get busy somteimes,(I'm in college).
I do PHP/database programming(PostgreSQL, but MySQL is even easier). I program also in java, C,C++, python, perl. I also like dv stuff and drawing with illustrator and those kind of programs, but my artistic side sucks. I am unix guy, thats why I came to try OS X, don't even have classic installed. If you are serious and need help, email me at jtattcg@yahoo.com
By the way, no one makes money from banners.
Thanks.

Sure, I can help. It really depends on what you need though... Are you just looking for someone to design the HTML from your "doodles" and someone to set up all the necessary scripts/technical stuff? If so, I can do that with my eyes closed, and I'd love to help.

If you're looking for someone to actually program an entirely new database, etc. program for your site, I'm out.

Email me at jeff@emuscene.com

you need hotani web template! it is PHP/MySQL based, you can plug in your graphics all over it if you wish, and it is meant to be used as a news and discussion site.

of course, I am biased since I wrote it, but that just means you can have front line tech support if you need it, and you shouldn't need it .

so go check it out, and e-mail me any questions you have - I will be glad to answer them.

oh, here are some example sites: http://hotani.net (main page) http://headweigh.net (philosophy discussion board and news site) http://ncaikido.org (aikido group)
