Hello,
I am in the process of scanning a vast number of images for a web site. I would like both good resolution for screen images, but I also would like to scan suitable for a web site. My question is: if I scan all at 300 dpi, can they be adjusted to 75 or less for a web site? Or, is it better that I scan twice- one at 300 and the other at 75? By the way, what is the normal resolution for a site, and how do you give an option for someone to click on the "thumbnail" for an enlargement? Thanks for any help at all!

Yes, you can definitely reduce a 300dpi image to a 72dpi image (72 is considered "monitor resolution"). Don't scan them twice. What app are you scanning from? If you're using Photoshop, you can easily make a lower-dpi image by selecting "image size". You can also make the complete image smaller for a thumbnail by scaling the image down to a smaller size, though I think there are apps that can do this automatically. I too serve the scanner at work. Please oh please don't scan them twice.

yes. just scan at 300dpi and then move it down to 72dpi for your website. you'll capture more information by scanning at 300 than 72. and you can always save a 300dpi version for printing, and the 72dpi version for your web site.

as for thumbnails, you can reduce the dimensions of your image and save that as a separate copy. i usually use the naming scheme of image.jpg and then imageT.jpg for the thumbnail. then just make that image a link to the full size thing on your webpage.

Thanks for the replies. I'm using Photoshop 5.0 LE. I hear that Photoshop Elements may be better. Any advice on that?
