I like the design. Simple yet elegant. You may want to rename some of your images though. On the "Information" page, you have images named "green star.jpg". Its never a good idea to have spaces in any of your file names when doing web design. Especially since you seem to be using a UNIX web hosting service. UNIX doesn't like spaces in file names its trying to refer to. If you have them, you increase your chances of broken links.

But again, I think the design is very elegant.

Hmmm... tan and purple... hmm... well, it's your website
I myself would change the purple text to something that complements the tan a little better - a light shade of tan, a dark brown (maybe the brown you used in the signature logo in the top left) . If you don't want to change all the purple text, changing at least the headline "David McLeod - Artist Statement" would make it look nicer.

Making the body copy one size smaller than the navigation, or the navigation one size font larger, could emphasize clicking on those links more. However, since the links are not underlined nor are blue, novice web users won't figure out they're links right away - but if you don't mind having those beginners not find your site completely intuitive, then it's no big deal.
