Hey guys, I was wondering if someone could help me out with this one... I am trying to find a way so that someone visiting my site can enter in their email address and then automatically recieve an email from my website. I am having a really hard time since I do not have much experience scripting (I'm more of in the graphic arts spectrum) anyway, if someone more experienced than I has any ideas, please send me an email at:

rstover@holly.colostate.edu

Thanks so much!

For this you are going to need some sort of script on the server to do this. Now don't panic, there is a nice little program called inPHormer that will do all the heavy lifting for you. You can download it at:

http://www.shift.it/inphormer/inphormer.sit

You will need to turn on PHP in apache to get this working (assuming that you are using MacOS X as your server), and there is plenty of direction for this floating around.

Thanks for that link. I downloaded the app and have been tinkering with it a bit but am yet to find a solution to my immediate problems. Just to clarify: I am not running my own server (yet) so i need sort of a universal prog that can send email to people who request it. I may very well be SOL, I would just like to find out for sure before I give up. I have a website with yahoo/geocities, and i need to find a way for people to enter their email adresses, and then automatically recieve a predetermined email in response. This may be impossible with my current set up, i would just like to know. Thanks again.

Free websites don't provide the mail sending services you need to accomplish this. You *could* find someone who is running a server and still host your pages on a free service while sending the mail from your 'friend's server.

You *do* need some sort of scripting on a server, with a mail program like sendmail or any other mail server app to do the sending.
