What do you think of this? Is it for real? How reliable do you expect it will be? I'm looking to get into PHP and start converting my site to sit on top of an SQL database.

What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

If your target audience is the US then you may want to reconsider a UK based web host. I don't know what the conversion rate is and I definately don't know what a VAT is. Do some looking around.

I have a web host for my personal site and it's not fast by any means. On top of that, I ssh'ed into my account and looked around at some of the other accounts - there were over a hundred websites on that machine. And most of them were porn sites! Needless to say, I'm not renewing my contract with them next year.

for PHP/MySQL check out http://hostrocket.com and http://fatcow.com

I have a couple of sites on fatcow, and although they are not the fastest servers out there, the tools and price cannot be beat: 100/yr for 100MB, PHP, MySQL, free domain set-up for first year and $20 thereafter.

I'm in the UK myself, and my target audience is worldwide. VAT is sales tax, and £4 is about $6.
