dumb question, but whats the address of my local server?

When Im connected to my university network, my IP is allocated to me and I use that as the address of my local host. However that address doesnt work if Im not connected to the network.
http://127.0.0.1/ and http://localhost/ dont seem to work either. Do I need to change something in the network settings? Like, tell it that Im not connected to the network anymore?

cheers
Jon

doh found the answer in this forum!

My network settings are set up to use a proxy, so I have to bypass the proxy to access 127.0.0.1 when I am offline.
