Why the hell can I not get a simple table (three rows three columns) to look good in any other browser besides IE? I have specified the height and width of the corner cells, top and bottom rows as well as the outer cells yet NS and OW still make the cells larger than I have specified leaving great gaps in the design? WTF? should I just not bother to try and make it compatible with these browsers? What am a missing here? How hard is it for browsers to render a fricking table gosh darn it? Any help would be greatly appreciated on this matter.

Make the middle cell a width of "99%" and that'll go a long way toward fixing those nasty glitches.

Thanks for the suggestion but now my problem lies with the height of the cells and the table it looks like complete ass.
http://homepage.mac.com/ozzelshat Can something like this actually be fixed or is that just the way the browsers do things? By the way it was done with BBEdit so the code should be fairly clean.

you're not wrong about it looking shite in Nutscrape! jeez...
have you considered using flash, then loading your body text into it, from an external txt file? easy enough to do, plus you know it will look the same in all browsers
if you need a hand, mail me and i'll bung you an example source file

a table cell with a background image (or colour) won't show up in netscape if the cell is empty, it will just come up white. Try putting a non-breaking space ( ) in the cell to fix it.

It's close: problems in Mozilla though, and I don't have X running so I can't see it in OmniWeb
ozzelhat.html
The big thing is to put non-breaking spaces in any cell without an actual image except for the background, make sure your </TD> are squished up against the end of a sentence or other block of code (that's a BIG Netscape deal)
Snag the code, I did a bunch of quick stuff to it.

Hey thanks for all the suggestions people. Phizilla flash sounds like a cool solution but unfortunately I don't own the program besides ReggieX did a bang up job fixing the glitch. I am going to compare it to my original html to see what he did to it.
Thanks again fellas.
