I know I'm being a pain in the arse...thanks for dealing.

What is the actual function of the JDBC driver and where can I get one? MM.mysql wants to open with TextEdit.

How can I test my MySQL installation to make sure everythings been installed correctly.

Do you guys actually build your database using the command line or do you use some sort of GUI that links in to MySQL?

...thanks again for helping out.

However.Step 5 "Copy the entire "mm.mysql-2.0.8" folder into the "mysql-3.23.47" folder." isn't working...I can't modify the folder..perhaps I need to be root?

Welcome to the MySQL monitor. Commands end with ; or \g.
Your MySQL connection id is <font color = blue>1</font> to server version: <font color = blue>3.23</font>.<font color = blue>49</font>-entropy.ch

Type 'help;' or '\h' for help. Type '\c' to clear the buffer.

Perfect...can you then close Terminal or must you leave it open to keep mysql open??

did you install mm.mysql? The only instructions I've found for installing make no mention of logging in as root..so I'm reluctant.

the first time, it will tell you it's active and ask if you really want to close it. you can do that. as long as you installed mark's startup.pkg as well, you should be fine. if in doubt, keep an eye on your screen when booting up. you should see "starting MySQL" flash past, near the end.

i have not installed mm.mysql, no. sorry
