I want to set up a (very) small business website and just want a cheap reasonable looking, easy to use and update website. It would need some sort of website creator as part of the package as I'm pretty much a novice in this area. I'm coming unstuck because sites are not supporting Macs 100% i.e. I don't get all the functions the Windows users get I'm right in thinking Linux isn't suitable yes?

Anyone know of any good Mac friendly website hosts??? I'd prefer a UK company.

Help!!!!!!!!

Jenni

But as I understand it, it doesn't actually matter whether the host runs on Unix, Windows, or Mac servers. Unix/Linux are extremely popular on the web because they're secure, reliable, and cheap. (I wonder if Mac OS X being UNIX-based will mean more Mac-based hosts in the future.) But since you can create all the webpages, images, and other files on your own computer, you can use whatever programs you want, so long as you have an FTP program that lets you connect to your web host's address, where you can upload your files. All that matters is that your web host actually has good customer service so they can answer all your questions if you have trouble setting things up and uploading your stuff.

Don't worry if your web host doesn't provide web creation software. You can go to ZDNET's downloads page to get a web editing program. Many are free to try and cheap to buy, around $30, but watch out for the high-end programs that cost hundreds of dollars. Those are things like Dreamweaver and stuff that probably are overkill if you're just doing a small business site. Also go to ZDNET if you're looking for Mac FTP programs.
