simple question: what program can I open and use it with?

I would think that you could import it into most spreadsheet programs, such as Excel (as mentioned) or that in AppleWorks. I'm not an expert in Excel on the Mac, but with AppleWorks, I'd recommend creating a new spreadsheet file and using the "Insert" command under the file menu.

It might be readable using a text editor as well. If it's small enough, SimpleText could open it, but otherwise you might have to use something like BBEdit (or import the text into Word or AppleWorks).

It's "Comma Separated Values".

Basically you've downloaded a plain text file with stuff with commas in between and line breaks at the end of each row. your words might have single or double quotes around them (in case the word has a comma in it like 1,000,000).

Sometimes a CSV is used to verify a series of images. On a PC, you can use JPEG Sherriff to do the check. On the Mac, the only program I know of is Verifyer for Classic.
