Hello,

I recently graduated from college with a computer science degree. I am finding it impossible to get a job. I have tried all the standard online paths (monster, hotjobs), and some local jobsites. I have also tried to use Staffing Services but they just give my the run-around. I was hoping for some pointers or tips from professionals. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

1- Get your resume professionally done it costs money or find sample resume and cover letter from the IT industry and model yours on it. Work on your cover letter. And make custom adjustments to every cover letter for each job you apply for. Talk about the skills the job add is asking for.

2- Find and research companies you would like to work for, and develop a professional proposal, then take them that proposals. Sell yourself even if they do not have a job create a job, what are you skills that you can sell, and that they need.

3- The economy is bad, and it is harder for a junior in IT. So more expert training is a good thing, like industry certification aka. Sun Java Engineer.

4- Get a job support network and do not get depressed, seek help if you do.

5- Join the club. You're not the only one (Don't take rejection letters too personally. What was it that Homer Simpson said? No matter how good you are at something, there is always someone better? )

I've been looking for a job for months as well. Even with employee referrals at some companies, several interviews, an offer from a start-up that ceased operations the following week, in a number of different industries (biotech, space station work, Mac desktop stuff), I decided to take a break from finding a job and started my own business. I'm not getting rich, but I am making money.

Good luck, the ecnomy is a disaster.
