RBDeveloper Magazine http://www.rbdeveloper.com has a simple RealBASIC contest going on right now which requires entrants to submit their completed project files in a Stuffit (.SIT) format. I just finished the project, but now I realize that Stuffit Expander won't do this for me (Yeah, I guess that's why they limit the title to "expander.")
Now I come from the Windows world where Winzip (a cheap shareware program) could both zip and unzip my files. But now I'm finding that in order to actually create an SIT file I need a $50-$80 Standard or Deluxe program from Alladin. I'm sure it's worth it for what it does, but I just don't have that much of a need for all of it. I've got a small set of files here, so I am not so interested in compression, but I DO need to get all the files into a STUFFIT archive. Is Alladin Standard or Deluxe the only way to go or is there another way to collect my files into an SIT file?
Alex.

You can use the shareware DropStuff program, included with StuffIt Standard. It expires after 30 days of use.
Even better, write to the website and tell them that StuffIt is an old and proprietary technology that made sense in the OS 9 days, but now we have access to the multitude of UNIX compression programs. All of these compress at a much better ratio than StuffIt, and are 100% free. There are a number of free GUI-compression utilities on VersionTracker, if you're interested.

Alternatively, rather than berating the site, check if they just need to be able to 'unstuff' the file. If so, Stuffit can expand a multitude of formats, including .tar.gz

Thank you for the offer. I was able to use DropStuff in its trial mode to stuff it. I'm going to look into whether I'll need it down the road, and then either purchase it or not.
Thanks for all the advice, all.
Alex.

DropStuff continues to work ad nauseum after the trial limit, it just starts popping up reminder dialogs every time you compress something.
