Since 10.1 I have been using ftp from a browser on a PeeCee (WinXP) to access my Public folder on my Sawtooth. After I upgraded to 10.2, having changed nothing, I now get a message from XP that says: "A connection with the server could not be established." I have checked that the Sharing Prefs have FTP access turned ON, firewall is OFF....only my Mac and a laptop on the network, behind a LinkSys router/firewall...
Any help/suggestions/ideas are appreciated.
thanks.

...and your ftp.log says what, exactly?
/var/log/ftp.log

[Ariadne:/var] davidday% cat log/ftp.log
and got nothing....sorry if I've used the wrong syntax...<grn>

Well, that could be a good sign - it means your ftp server has never actually been connected to, so the problem might not be on the mac end. Are you sure you are typing the right IP on the PC? Of course, the more negative interpretation is that ftpd has never started running in the first place...

the IP address has worked in the past, so I'm reasonably sure about that. As to ftpd, unless it is started by setting the prefs, I have NOT done anything to launch it...

Thing is, it IS started by running the prefs. As for your ip address, a sure way to find it out in 10.2 is to type "arp yourcomputername.local", or look in the Network preferences, or something. Just investigating the possibility that that has changed for whatever reason...

Try ps -acex, and look for "inetd" or "xinetd".
