I recently started playing with Applescript Studio and am pretty impressed. I am a web developer (Java and PHP mostly) and was happy to see a way to develop light mac apps without going into C/Obj-C.

I'd really love to see apple add more official support to other languages. I think an object oriented scripting language like Python or Ruby would be a great fit and fill the niche between Applescript and Obj-C. I did see CamelBones (http://camelbones.sourceforge.net/) which lets you develop GUI apps with Perl. Has anyone here used this or know of similar projects?

ruby - I'm sure I heard something -

seems to turn up some promising looking links.

You know that Project Builder is just a glorified text editor which uses Shell commands.

You can code in practically any language - I personally have used it for PHP and I compiled (I can hardly claim I wrote it though) a "Hello World" app as GameBoy Advance executable

What I'm interested in is the integration with the gui building tools in the way that you can use applescript to respond to and control aqua elements. Maybe a better title would be "Interface Builder and other languages"

Here's a couple of links I've found since:

Rubycocoa - http://www.imasy.or.jp/~hisa/mac/rubycocoa/

Python cocoa bridge - http://pyobjc.sourceforge.net/ - no docs though

An article on Mac Python development - http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/python/2...ythonnews.html

I know GUI apps can be written with other approaches like wxWindows or Tk but I haven't looked into those yet. I'd like the smoothness of the Applescript Studio approach with a language more powerful than applescript and not as deep as C
