Has anyone else noticed the annoyingly poor processor utilization in running command-line apps? If I'm not doing anything else on a machine, a linux box will let me have as much of 99% of the processor. On OS X, this just doesn't happen. It improved somewhat with jaguar, but not enough. Running in console mode seems to make no difference. renicing the window manager (yes, I'm a geek) also does not have a big enough effect. I want the ability to eat the processor (provided nothing else is running).

anyone else notice this? Have any solutions?

Markian
