I've been trying to create a custom keyboard layout by creating an xml .keylayout file. This works fine, however I'm having a few glitches:

(1) - when I log in, a third keyboard layout appears in the keyboard drop down menu in the menu bar - besides the British and my custom keyboards I also get an Arabic keyboard layout (presumably because it is the first one in the Unicode list in System Prefs). Removing this via sys prefs works well but it keeps reappearing upon login

(2) - the custom keyboard cannot be set as default in general or for specific applications

has anyone done this before or knows what's going wrong? Is it possible to create a fully functional keyboard layout where the above problems are solved?

thanks

s
