Has anyone tried this IDE on Mac OS X? I believe that it is pure Java, but they (of course) don't offer any Mac OS X version. Has anyone tried a manual install, or done anything else that I don't know about?

Upon closer inspection, I did find a generic Unix version, so I will try that. I will post here any findings of interest.

Well, first off, it appears that they compiled the whole thing with the special new class version, and Apple's VM does not support it. This is the error I got:

java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: com/intellij/idea/Main (Unsupported major.minor version 48.0)

That version should be 45.3, but apparently they just had to have that new format. Odd thing is that I use JDK 1.3.1 on Windows, and JDK 1.3.1 on OS X, and it doesn't work on the Mac.

I'm sure you can still download IntelliJ IDEA 2.6, which worked fine for me in OS X. I've yet been able to successfully run 3.0. Obviously, 3.0 is going to better and more feature complete, but 2.6 is still damn good.

Well, I was wrong about the JVM version - the Windows version ships with a dedicated 1.4.1 VM - and I couldn't find a download for 2.6.

Too bad, the thing looks really nice. I am running it in VPC now, but not the most useable.
