Okay,

As some of you know, I am working on developing some web stuff for the non profit agency that I work for.

I am at a point where I am trying to figure out the best way to do the following on a survey that I am working on:

The survey asks "In which U.S. States do you place volunteers?"

Users need to be able to select anywhere from 1 to all 51 (counting DC) US States. They can select multiple states. Then I need this information to go in to a MS Acess Database.

Since I am the only person in the office who is remotely computer literate, I have the privelage of also being able to desing the Database any way I choose, so long as it is in MS Access. So with that in mind, if anyone could give me suggestions on the best way to set this up I would appreciate it. There will be approximately 240 users of this survey. The rest of the survey has been designed in ASP. I don't know anything other than ASP, but I could probably pick it up if it isn't too complex (although, admittedly I would like to do this using ASP, as I am learning that and beginning to feel comfortable with it).

Finally, if anyone knows of a place that has this type of code pre-written and available to the general public for free, I'd appreciate that as well, as I am not really looking forward to typing in all 50 states in an HTML form or whatnot, especially when I know someone out there must have some of the code available for public use.

Any help/comments/suggestions/ etc. is greatly appreciated.

Peace,

O

I think with a list this long, you might want to do 51 checkboxes. A scrollable list of 51 is just too long. If you accidentally select something you don't want to, you scroll right past it and forget about it. I'd say 3 columns of 17 states each in alphabetical order is your best bet.

Use two tables. User the first one with unique user IDs tied to user names and other information. In another table, store the user ID tied to the States. This second database will not have unique entries fo user ID, but you can tie them back to user ID in the first table.

TABLE 1:
1 John Smith Address Phone
2 Mary Johnson Address Phon

TABLE 2:
1 Alaska
1 Texas
2 California
1 Delaware
2 Washington DC

Edit: I can't do math. 51 / 3 = 17
