This is an App idea that would be a server/client Rendezvous message poster. The person posts a message on the server and all the clients connected to that server will show the message

The client can be set so it can not be quitted (like if it was a school environment).

So, anyone up for it?

If nobody takes up your idea you should start a sourceforge project. You could work on the GUI and write a plan. When you've got that done you could come back and tell everyone to check out your project. Might get more people to contribute that way...I dunno.

You could probably even run through some tutorials and sample code to get a bunch of it done yourself...if you're not already a code monkey. It doesn't take that long to learn Obj-C.

Just an idea - may be worth a try though.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but how is this different from iChat or ICQ?

Anyway, if you'd like to build something like this, use Jabber. That'll give you the entire foundation, all you need to do is put a new UI on it. IChat uses Jabber for Rendevouz messaging, so that way you get iChat compability. But then again, this is nothing more than a restricted version of iChat as I see it. Correct me if I'm wrong.

iChat is a two way street, and peer-2-peer

this is a one way street with all the messaging going towards the client, and none towards the server

yeah, it may be restricted, but that is the way it is supposed to be. It is like sending a memo out to everyone in the office. Everybody gets the memo if they are at the office, and you are always avaliable to give the memo to

Why *bump*? You told people to go to the SF forums, why not let this thread die?

Nothing personal, but I too think that this thread has passed its expiration date by now.

Still feel free to post new ideas though, seems like you have a lot of them. One of the hardest things about software development is finding really good ideas. Nine out of ten (or was it ten out of nine?) never go much further than the idea stage, at least that's my experience. With lots of ideas and concepts to choose from a few really good ones will eventually surface.

Heh, well, this is another bump, but also I have done some stuff, but now am stuck. I have made the client recognize that there is a server, but I am having problems getting the server to send the rich text data, and the client to recieve the rich text dataand put it into the text view.... hmmmm......
