People have been talking (threads one and two) about making a screensaver like XSnow available for OS X. I was bored...
This early version of Sn0w is not very pretty, not customisable and not as fast as it should be. However, it works. I hope. That's what I need to find out:) Anybody who's interested in testing it, download here and leave any feedback in this thread. Note that Sn0w requires the Accessibility API to be enabled; to do this, go to the Universal Access preference pane and make sure "Allow access for assistive devices" is checked (requires admin privileges).

cool, bugger does some odd stuff w/ dual monitors – but this is probably apple's fault with either/or Accessibility and the screen saver API... not the fault of your code.

where'd you find out how to grab a screenshot to use for a screensaver?

I'm not grabbing a screenshot
Try putting a console window or something that updates there - you can see it's realtime. Dual monitor support is not something I have even attempted yet; later on when it gets closer to a working thingy I will.

Awesome job!

Although it's pretty elementary at this point (understandable ) it shows tons of potential! Next xmas should be very festive!

I only ran it for a couple minutes but here's my list;
1) it doesn't collect snow on the dock
2) it collects on some (/all?) transparent windows.

You could probably rake it in next xmas - just make it rule to the point that people want to throw their money at you! Heck, I'd almost pay $6 for it as-is - except, xmas has past.

Thank you, although the fact that Rick Jansen is now porting the 'proper' Snow makes me somewhat less relevant Still, we'll see.
