Would it be possible to write a Service that takes text, sends it to Sherlock's Dictionary channel for translation?

It would be like the "Define in OmniDictionary" Service.

And...my second request is of the same nature. Can the same be done but for the Translation channel?

Or are these impossible to do without internal knowledge of the channels themselves.

I don't belive you can do it in Sherlock - it's dictionary isn't significant enough to let you do it.

However, you might want to check out http://www.apple.com/applescript/script_menu/

The 'Internet Services' download includes a 'Translate English to French' script that uses XML-RPC/SOAP to translate text. You should be able to edit the script to convert other languages easilt enough.
