I am looking for insight into how to handle the action of a button press. What I want to do is simply send a message to a textfield when the button is depressed then send a different message to the same textfield when the button is released.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Try looking in the NSButton documentation. For an action on releasing the button, look at the delegate stuff. Don't forget to make connections in IB.
