I was going through my million plus files
and went insane. .....∂¥∫ ..
I was thinking how great it would be if their was
a program or just a folder that would keep
files and such categorized just like the SYP.
But have drag and drop of course.
I do know of column view but the icons are so
small in that view, plus I really miss the one click
button files from OS9 .
I am surprized that this has not even been created yet.

Mockup?
I can't really visualize what you are talking about.

A prog like that could be made, but it would probably just run on top of the Finder. Wouldn't it be just as easy to create a background in Photoshop that does those categories
Besides, if you have a million files in a directory, that type of design wouldn't really work i dont think.

well a while ago I created a Catalog image
for a folder but it was to bugy. The image would
break everywhere and the files would not stay
put and when you accedently press arrange by
name the whole thing goes wack.
I understand that it would be a program much
like Snax or those other finder things. But they
have way to many features and the icons are still
so small.
I have thought that this could realy do the trick
since each folder would have the same system
inside each.
Well at least could you tell me where I could
ask elsewhere ?

I was actually looking into making something like this a while ago. The thing is, the System Preferences way of doing things just doesn't seem to scale well. It's designed for a relatively small collection of items that stay more or less the same forever. Once you start adding "a million-plus files," it seems like it's as much of a hassle to organize them this way as it would be to create a decent folder structure. You may as well use List mode with large icons.

Well if you ever do make this program
Please let me be the very first to know.
I think it would clean things up realy nice.
Like if the program could have multiple SYP-like
folders all over the finder.
Or in other words a way to have sub folders to be
able to be seen without having to click each one.
Think of it like another view menu for the basic
Finder view :
" Icon, Column, List, and " Large icon one click SYP style all Sub folder view "
It would speed things up alot. And look nice in the process
Plus in Jaguar you could stick that Metal look on it if you like .
