I have a potential job...the guy that wants to incorporate a board into his club's site. Wondering is you guys no how easily this is to implement, if you need to do anything special to prepare the site for the board, how managing it works, and how costly the whole thing is.

I know I could probably go the PHP route but since he'll be covering the bill I'd probably choose to pay for a package that's easier to incorporate/administer.

if it's going to get hit a lot, a php/mysql solution is the way to go. it'll be fast and reliable (as long as it isn't hosted on the same frickin' server as macnn's boards). they're easy enough to install, as you just run install.php from your browser, and it does the rest

if it's going to be pretty light, traffic-wise, there's no harm in using a flat-file perl board

best tools for the job:

php: free-phpBB, pay-vBulletin

perl: free-iKonboard, pay-Ultimate Bulletin Board

or, try these places, for more of both: PHP, Perl

I have had great success in the past with the Perl-based WebBBS. It takes less than 10 minutes to set up and works very well.

I have been very happy with my board hosted by Infopop
My plan runs me $21.00 a month with a 3 Gig limit.
You could also check out EZBoard.
