I'm fairly certain that you have to be in the developer program to have assets transferred, but you can join as a student developer, then have someone who has paid for assets transfer them to you.

I was just checking the ADC site. I didn't realize that student-level membership is now $99/year! This is quite stupid on apple's part. I thought that the student program was designed to get some free tools/benifits into as many people as possible.

But you do have to have an ADC membership to have assets transferred to you.

An ADC Online (free) membership is sufficient to have assets transferred to you. Otherwise there would be no sense in having multiple assets with each Select/Premier account, no?

let me basically run down my situation here
i basically got ripped off I was offered a developer discount assett for 100.00. He then told me once I paid him he would provide me with a link that wouldbe from his account and I would be able to order witht he developer prices. Basically long story short guy is long gone and now Im stuck holding the bag...i got this email from apple about 1/1/2 days after

We received your web order (W4623322) but we are unable to
process it at this time. You do not seem to have a developer
membership account and therefore do not have any Hardware
Discount assets available to make this purchase. If you are using
another member's discount, please have that member transfer a
Hardware Discount asset to you. Once this has been done,
please let us know and we will release your order. If you wish to
cancel your order, please let us know as soon as possible. If we
do not hear from you within 3 business days, the order will be
cancelled.

so basically i am screwed. So my call out to anyone is If someone knows anyone who may be willing to transfer an assett to me. I would be willing to pay a very nominal fee (money I have left except for the saved powerbook money) and I may also be able to provide a free cd or two as I work for a music label.

Please refrain from flaming me if possible I know I was an idiot in getting scammed!

thanks

The guy won't re-transfer the asset to a new free online ADC account that you create?

Anyway, hardware discount assets are hard to come by unless you are premiere... I doubt anyone would be willing to give theirs away...

Incidentally, what record label?

You just need an online membership. I have transfered my hardware discount to online members that I know when I was not going to use the discount before expiration. If this person transfers the asset to you, then it should appear in your active assets when you log onto your ADC account. I do not remember if you receive an email.

First off you are not allowed to sell your hardware discounts. See Article 3 of the Terms:
3. Transfer Of Membership
Benefits And Materials. The benefits and materials provided to you as an ADC program member may be transferred only to your employees and contractors who have established an ADC membership. You agree that you will not otherwise transfer, publish, or disseminate such materials or benefits.
So I think the first thing you need to do is report the guy who tried to sell you it.

As for legal transaction of assets, all you need to be is an ADC member, ether Online Only (Free), Student, Select, or Premier.
I was just checking the ADC site. I didn't realize that student-level membership is now $99/year! This is quite stupid on apple's part. I thought that the student program was designed to get some free tools/benifits into as many people as possible.
AFAIK, the student membership has always been $99 a year, and it's a bargain at that(You get alot of good stuff; I was a 3 year member of the program, got to go to WWDC for free, free OS updates, hardware discount (which i never did use) and more!). Tools are free for anyone via the Online Only (Free) ADC option, as well, you can pick them up at Macworlds and Apple Stores on CD.
