And it has to be free.

So, if those requirements haven't completely ruled out all programs in existence, here's what I need:

I'm a student in a college architecture program. I'm also the local tech/computer guy while we're here in Europe, and a lot of my classmates have begun to ask me for help in putting together simple, web-based (or a CD viewable by a web browser) portfolio for their work to submit to possible firms and such. For me, this is pretty easy, but most of my classmates have little or no HTML/webpage experience whatsoever. So, I decided I'd throw together a class and see if I could help more than one person at a ; save myself a little time. But, I need a program to do it.

First and foremost, it needs to be free (or just insanely cheap shareware). I know this kills a lot of options.

Second, cross platform would be awesome. I can easily teach on Dreamweaver or GoLive here on the iMacs, but if they get home this summer (90% use PC's) and want to change their page, it might be an issue.

Right now, the winner looks like it might be Netscape Composer. It's free and it's not horridly hard to use, plus I don't need to teach them how to use an FTP program as it has the Publish feature built right in.

But, if anyone knows of anthing better (either WYSIWYG program, or some magical web-based architecture-portfolio-creator script ) or can reaffirm my idea to use Composer, please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

Mozilla/Netscape's Composer is your only hope, if you want anything cheap.

A very long time ago (6-7 years), there was an editor known as Arachnid, written in SuperCard. This was freeware and WYSIWYG, but I haven't seen it in years. Even if you could find it, it's so out of date that it wouldn't be all that useful.
You are in Soviet Russia. It is dark. Grue is likely to be eaten by YOU!

Balthaser (www.balthaser.com) lets you create Flash sites with their AMAZING Flash interface. They have a free 5MB account that puts an ad somewhere on your page, but is otherwise not restrictive. You can upload pictures, change text, move things around, use stock effects and photography. It's really pretty impressive.

Anyone just idly reading this thread should check it out. It's that amazing.

It's a pretty demanding site...Safari didn't like it but Chimera handled it for me...

I'm sorry I gave such a fussy link.

I won't do it again .
