Is anyone having any luck using Java 1.4.1 with any version 2 build of Eclipse? (I'm using 2.1 build 200303071024.)
When I use 1.4.1 I end up with a nasty error message:
Save Failed:1804227256
And I end up having to force Eclipse to use 1.3.1.
Anyone else see this?

Mine works fine. I can't recall, but I believe that I have M5 installed. I've just recently started to try Eclipse out.
About Eclipse states:
Version: Not Specified
Build id: 200302211557

I forgot to mention it, but M5 is a pre-release 2.1 build.
It can be found here
It is pre-release and I really don't know what is broken.

It's working fine for me with build 200303071024 (2.1 RC2) using Java 1.4.1.

Can you post your hardware specs and how Swing performs?

I'm using Eclipse with Java 1.4.1 to do J2EE compilation. Performance in the GUI is a bit slow on my G3/600 iBook but the compilation is pretty fast.

Have you tried anything else beside eclipse? like Netbeans or IntelliJ? As far as I know, eclipse is not pure Java since they use their SWT not Swing.

NetBeans performance is pretty dismal on my 700Mhz G4 iMac. I'm not really convinced Swing is the way to go with Java apps anymore, but I can't find any decent tutorials on SWT anywhere.

Try this site: http://www.eclipse.org/articles/index.html
There are a bunch of articles on eclipse. There are some on SWT...don't know if they are tutorial or just an architecture overview of SWT. Hope that helps!

Are you folks who are running Eclipse successfully sure you're using using the 1.4.1 JVM?
If you pull down the Eclipse help menu, select "About Eclipse Platform," and press the Configuration Details button, does it say that you are using the 1.4.1 JVM?
Eclipse runs fine for me if I make sure that its Info.plist file specifies Java 1.3.1, but if I set it to 1.3.1+ or 1.4.1,
(Which forces it to use the 1.4.1 JVM) it won't save my files.

Yep, the Info.plist file specifies 1.4.* for JVMVersion, and the config info in Eclipse itself says 1.4.1.

As a side note, I discovered that if you move all the contents of the Eclipse folder except for Eclipse.app and workspace into Eclipse.app/Contents/Resources/Java (delete the Java alias first) it'll still all work. At least, it appears to be working this way, I won't make any guarantees.

Sigh...Guess it's just me.
More digging required, I reckon.
Thanks for checking.
