I've been involved in website design for over six years, but until now I haven't had a client with a need for e-commerce integration on their site. I don't want to re-invent the wheel, nor do I want to go broke purchasing an e-commerce solution (i.e. I am willing to pay, I'd just rather not be paying thousands of $ for a solution).

Any suggestions out there from packages people have used that they'd recommend? I DO NOT want a package that makes me use their page designs - I want to be able to integrate the e-commerce functionality seamlessly into the pages that I DESIGN. And I'd like it to be native OS X software, if possible.

Any tips/recommendations would be appreciated!

Well, one of my friends is running an online store at http://www.esellerate.net. He says that he likes it, and does not have to pay much for thier service. They do all the financial part of the transactions, and he just receives the money.

If you are into PHP you probably hear of the Black Book. I was just today browing it, and ran into PHP some functions that let you do transactions via PHP. That seemed really nice. All the communication with verisign can be done with PHP supposedly.

I guess the biggest concern is security. You do not want to get in trouble, by being hacked and losing all the info of the customers.

I hope that this helps you out.
I have not done any sites like that either yet, but who knows one of these days I might get an order to do so.

Good luck,

t

Edit: I have done some digging...here is a good starting point with PHP:

I would like to recommend ShoppingQ (www.shoppingq.com), we have been using it for a while now and are very happy with it. You can custom skin everything and its really easy to use. This isn't native OSX software but it does run on apache of course.

I also recommend OSCommerce if you are looking for a free solution.

Thanks, Ben

I'm in the same boat and was thinking of using EZ Shop Software. They have a plugin for GoLive and it works with PayPal and WorldPay. Has anyone used or heard anything about EZ Shop?http://www.ez-shops.com/index2.mgi

A real good user friendly one that I've used for about a year is www.miva.com
It could run you around $600, but well worth it.
