Sorry to ask guys, normally like to sort it myself. My new favicon is totally sucking cheese at present, no idea why.

I've made a cute little 16 x 16 windows .ico file, with a standard windows palette. linked to it from the site. But nothing shows up but the white corners of the circle (essentially what would normally be the alpha mask). However, I've taken off any masking, tried multiple palettes, saving, resaving, graphicconverter, photoshop plugin and on and on. It even looks fine when i load it up as the actual page source, but not in the address field of Safari, Mozilla etc.

Is it my bad and is my cache just not emptying as it should, and does everyone else see it okay, or have I missed some glaringly obvious thing? Help!

Webpage here

and this is meant to be the favicon -
Hark, I hear a robin sig'ing in the trees!

Cool, might be the cache then, probably corrupt or something. Cheers.

Thought I'd tried everything, but... Turns out there's a daft wee bit in your user library that Safari must install that ain't part of the Safari cache.

user/library/caches/webkit/icons

This is where all those funky little buggers are kept, and for some reason it just would only see my old icon already stored there, rather than taking a new one. Having dumped it- now knowing how to - can now muck about with favicons in my browser of choice.

Hope my experience is of use to others.

Emptying cache - nothing!
Deleting stupid copy already in library - perfect!

I looked at user/library/cashes/webkit/icons and my folder is empty. I have created some favicons and put them in the root files and they load fine on my pc, but will not load on my Mac...what am I doing wrong?

I tried emptying cache: Nothing
I tried to locate the user/library/caches/webkit/icons folder and nothing was in it.

help?

Or will eventually Safari recognize the new favicons? if so how long does it take?

Download Safari Icon Manager.

http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/mac/17860

An option is to download the above software.....its freeware that lets you pick each icon you want to keep etc. for using safari...works only for Safari.
