I've redesigned this site I've worked on from the ground up, and I think the result is much better than before. The only page I'm not too fond of is the language-specific index page, though I don't think it's bad either. If you want to have a look and tell me what you think (as to graphic design, navigability, ...), I'd be honored. It's still on a free geocities account, but it's getting it's own domain this week (finally). One question on the side: are there any compelling reasons NOT to go for the Geocities Plus package (offering me 25 MB/ 10 GB/month , domain name, ftp, ...)? Sometimes, you'll find there are wellknown things to say against some SP...

Anyway, here's the site:

http://www.geocities.com/asterix_holiday_house/

(note: only the English and Nederlands/Dutch sections are finished - so you can also check out the old style by going for French, German or Spanish. If you do make the comparison, tell me what you think about that too). Thanks.

Overall I really like it. Has a nice graphical look to it. I just have two suggestions.

1. I would try to space out the menu options on the home page a little bit, or otherwise distinguish them a little more. Where they're grouped together so closely, they almost look like a paragraph of text that's meant to be read. If you spaced them out a little, or added an * at the front of each line, or did something to distinguish them a little more, it might be clearer for visitors who are on the newer side.

2. You might want to consider adding navigation links at the bottom of each page. I know that you implemented it at the top, but it only allows you to go back to the home page. You could add links to all the pages at the bottom, and since it's at the bottom, it wouldn't take away from the look of the site in any way. This would prevent users from having to go back to the home page every time they want to browse another page. Generally, if you can allow a user to do something in one click instead of two, that's good.

Just my .02. Like I said, graphically, I really like the site. Just a couple of suggestions for the technical side of things.

I like the design. However, I found that it took me 3 mouse clicks before I got an idea of what the site was for. It then took a bit of reading to understand what the Asterix is.

Great job overall!

I agree, nice site. I noticed one little picky little thing here:
http://www.geocities.com/asterix_hol...n/woorden.html

The images appear not to have sizes set which means that when you hit the page they're microscopic, and then resize a couple seconds later.

with the look, i would definately just go completely css table-less just because its easy and because you can (i love css).

i like more design and style too. spice it up some. i would at least put some red in the index to go with the other pages. a pic of the house wouldn't hurt either. i would definately keep the whole flow of the site more fluid and seamless. not much of it seems to be interface friendly or user friendly (meaning that from the first page to the actual third i ended up on, were completely different looks and styles).

flow is important. whether it be from link to link, or page to page. you want everything to be in arms reach and as if when you click on a said link, that you are now in a new room without yet turning on the lights - you should still feel comfortable that you can easily feel the wall and find the light switch.

i am just giving feedback. not trying to throw bad comments your way at all. you have good content, just grab hold of it and compress it into a nice little package that flows better. i would make each page as identical as the previous that maybe just a pic and the actual text change.

i think that would make for a much more user friendly and accessible site

I think you have consistency problems, your index page, your contact page, your guestbook page, your virtual tour page, your brugge page, all look like they're from different sites than the why page , price page, route page (ugly background) and about page.

You should carry that light blue dotted background thing throughout all the pages, I think that would tie it all together.

Space the links out on your index page, make them look more like links with "-" or something. They're all crammed together and hard to read. Break it up. Also right justified is a bad idea, maybe put the picture on the left and links on the right.

Why is the adsl so important that it gets four lines on the homepage with a box around it? Wouldn't I care more about what the house looked like (you really have that big window right in the shower? hubba hubba) and pricing information?

Get rid of the about this site page, I don't care about that either, is this a website about a website or about your vacation home?

Your bread crumb navigation is a pain to use, if I'm going to move my mouse to the upper left hand corner I might as well just hit the back button instead (and I did).

The text on the why page is somewhat horrible, should use ragged right, bump the text size down one, line spacing up, make it flow around the pictures better. Try indenting. Look at a double column layout.

Overall it's hard site to get information out of, looks like you want me to look your computer skills more than your vacation home. I think you've overused photoshop with the all the drop shadows, bevel and embosses and feathering.

I didn't read what other people said, just going off the top off my head to give an honest reaction.
