i am definitely a novice with computer stuff. so apologies if i'm asking dumb questions.

have built a website using html. it incorporates frames (one column on the left has navigation links - clicking on them displays pages in the other larger 80% column.)

To run the site on my iBook for testing, I always ctrl click on the file called frameset.

in the ftp instructions from my isp (i'll be uploading to their server to use free space) it says that the first file has to be called index.html and that this is the first thing the viewer will see.

does this mean i have to change the name of my frameset file to index?

also, using something like fetch, can i upload entire folders at a time? the site displays four photography projects and the jpegs are all contained in folders 'project one' 'project two' etc. can i upload these folders in one go, or must i do it file by file?

thanks

If you open the Frameset file, and that is your website, then yes. You will need to rename this to index.html or index.htm

yes you should be able to upload entire folders. Just make sure you webpages are getting transferred as text/ascii and you images as binary. This should happen automatically.

thanks,

that all sounds pretty straightforward. about to download fetch - hopefully all will go smoothly.

does it matter where on my computer i keep the folder from which i'll be uploading everything. i've called it 'website' and is currently sitting on my desktop.

should it be on the dektop or somewhere else?

It really doesn't matter where you store your local copies. Wherever suits you.
