Hi,

I have just started to use 'Encoder' <http://www.hiveware.com/> to protect the email address on my site from spammers.

One of my addresses is shown a a graphic rather than a text link.

Is it possibe, or even necessary (I guess it is), to protect this address also?

Thanks

Simon

i think this is a good way to prevent most harvesters from getting your email addy. i thought about doing it as a graphic image myself, but think either way is effective.....the enkoder way probably is more "secure" since it really obfuscates the address so that you can't even see it online or via "View Source."

that's what i intend to use when i redo my site and change domains shortly.

Infowarrior,

I can't use it to encode an address as a graphic. According to the developers you can do it by using their online version of the SW but when I attempt to use the resulting code in Dreamweaver It breaks the path to the graphic and it doesn't appear.

Would love to know what I'm doing wrong...

nononno -- what i meant was this is an "either or" approach. either you use the enscrambling technique OR you do it as an imagefile. my sense is they're both good -- but i favor the enscrambling technique, and then blow that code into your dreamweaver pagefile as appropriate.

cheers,

rick

rick,

I understood what you meant but unless you don't link the graphic with a ~mailto:~ the 'bots will still get the address from the html, so it still needs encoding. If you are willing to just present the address as an unlinked graphic, obviously you will be ok but people expect to be able to click an address.

It can be done aparently but I still can't figure out *how* to do it :-)
