I'm on a mac (obviously) and I'm putting some video on my website. I anticipate most people visiting the site will be on PC. I want to feature video on the site. What is the best universal video format that will work across all platforms.

QT- Great for mac, but I don't want make people download software

AVI- Doesn't work so well on Mac

ASF- Sucks

Mpeg4- Is this supported by windows media player?

Mpeg1- This is where I'm leaning, not the best quality, but it will work on any computer.

Any other suggestions?

And is it possible to make ASF files on the MAC? Then I could give people a choice. Mac or PC/

When I had this question i went with an option of either quicktime or realplayer. there is a classic app. real puts out that allows free creation of realplayer movies

i've always just embedded a .mov and stuck a QT Download button on there

if you're really concerned, i'd go with a plain old .mpg, so the windoze users can play it with their WMP plug-in

Go with MPEG-1 or MPEG-4. WiMP can play both of these.
