Hi,

I'm trying very hard to set up 'moregroupware' on my box. I'm using both 'Webmin' and 'phpmyadmin' to work with mySQL. I'm constantly getting errors relating to the mySQL DB I created for moregroupware saying that it doesn't exist or that there is no such user/password.

If I search for something like 'mysqladmin' I find I have two of them. One is at /usr/local/bin/mysqladmin.
The other is at /Library/MySQL/bin/mysqladmin.

Does this mean that I have two installations of mySQL?

Also, when using phpmyadmin I notice that I have two references to 'localhost' when asked which server I want to use...

Can anyone offer any thoughts?

If I do have two copies of mySQL, how do I delete one of them. And which one should go?

Thanks

Simon

you probably do have 2 versions of mysql. (the whereis command will be your friend if you want to get rid of one of the versions)

the two different local hosts are probably the two different installations.

the location in /Library will probably be a lot easier to get rid of, you probably can just trash the folder.

yeah, looks like you've installed Complete MySQL. trashing the /Library/MySQL directory will indeed delete it, but you need to turn it off via the pref pane first, then make sure you remove the pref pane

philzilla & clam2000,

Thanks for your help guys.

I can't understand how I come to have two copies... Is one installed as default with OSX?

The problem now is that webmin is set up to use the one in /library and I have a feeling there is stuff missing from the one in /usr as the module I was installing to get webmin to communicate with mySQL gave errors during the installation.

I'll see if I can at least change the paths in webmin to see the other installation...

Stand by... :-)

Hi,

Sure enough...

There seems to be a missing shared library in the /usr installation.

When I change the paths in webmin I get:

The MySQL client program /usr/local/bin/mysql does not appear to be the correct version. Webmin only supports MySQL versions 3 and above.

The command /usr/local/bin/mysql -V returned :

/usr/local/bin/mysql: cd: /usr/local/mysql/: No such file or directory (this is in fact a dead alias)
/usr/local/bin/mysql: /Library/webmin-1.090/mysql/bin/mysql: No such file or directory
/usr/local/bin/mysql: exec: /Library/webmin-1.090/mysql/bin/mysql: cannot execute: No such file or directory

Make any sense?

I'll do a search as phizilla suggests...

Hi,

I trashed the /library install and reinstalled from msql's site with the help of Marc Liyanage's site, <http://www.entropy.ch/home/>.

Now everything works as it should, even managed to install the required modules for webmin.

Also have moregroupware running. Slowly...

Very cool. Thanks for everyone's help.
