I would like to do some processing on the data stream comming out of my firewire camcorder. So I guess that first I need to get the data stream, then figure out how to parse it and finally how to use any high level APIs.

Since iMovie, iChatDV and a host of applications use digital video streams, I figure that I won't have to code a driver -that would suck.

Does anyone know where I should be reading? This is probably way over my head but there's no better way of learning.

Thanks!

Yes - you want to use quicktime - Especially the Sequence Grabber.

If you want the actual data stream, get Apple's OS X Firewire SDK, which contains examples of code which can transfer DV data directly to/from the camera.

Yeah, I downloaded that this morning but it's pretty dense. Now I have to figure out where to start...

I'm also looking at QT but that seems to be very Carbon -not that there's anything wrong with that... Does Panther offer a more Cocoa friendly API? Another thing with QT is that some of the example projects are made for Code Warrior and I don't have that IDE.

Thanks,

I hope so. I am trying to interface with my iSight using the Sequence Grabber, and it is a pain in the ass if you want to use Cocoa.
