Hey all, just wrote my first applescript! It is a startup script that opens my favorite apps and empties trash and some other commonly needed tasks. I want to get into this some more, but when i looked around the web I couldnt find anywhere that had like a tutorial or help or anything. If someone could recomend a site, that would be great! Also, a book would be OK, sometimes those are a little easier to understand.

Thanks,
Justin

http://www.tandb.com.au/applescript/tutorial/

is good.

To truly get into it - read the AppleScript Language Guide - there's a PDF for download on Apple.com. just put it into google.

Diggory, I went to google and typed that in and it went to the apple page, but that version is for applescript 1.3.7 and below, when i check on my system it says its like version 1.9.1. Its 400 some odd pages so i want to make sure im printing the right thing. Any updated apple docs that are that comprehensive? Is 1.3.7 the same as 1.9.1?

They aren't the same, but they should be pretty close. Later extensions like executing shell commands and handling POSIX paths probably won't be in there, but the main bulk of the language should be the same, I think.

It hasn't been updated for ages - but the AppleScript Lang. hasn't changed that much either.

My version of the Doc is for AS 1.3.7 also.

Published May 1999!

here's a nice script for the script menu that allows quick access to the PDF:

Code:
tell application "Finder" open "developer:Documentation:carbon:pdf:AppleScriptLanguageGuide.pdf" end tell
