How do i a go about this? the main php sites dont say too much about this and i am seeking recommendations from my macnn homies at any rate.

what i want is something like i have on my PC. a 4 way installer with apache/php/cgi/mysql that is meant for beginners like me to start on.

i think the developing experience on a PC is decent, i want to see how it is on my mac before i start building my site.

thanks

P.S. my progress is decent. i understand more of it and i found a text editor i like better than bbedit on the PC side. on risk of sounding geeky...i am having fun. i'm having a weird problem with this one script though. makes me feel like chris_h at the sheriff's station.

You can get simple installers for PHP and MySQL here:

http://www.entropy.ch/software/macosx/

and

http://www.mysql.com/downloads/mysql-4.0.html

Once you get those installed, try Zend Studio here:

http://www.zend.com/store/products/zend-studio.php

I don't use it (BBEdit works fine for me), but you might like it since it is specifically designed for PHP development.

Another place to get binary installers is: http://www.serverlogistics.com

There are three ways to control mysql using a gui
1) PhpMyAdmin (http://phpmyadmin.sf.net)
2) YourSql (http://www.mludi.net/YourSQL/)
3) Webmin (http://www.webmin.com)

This question comes up a lot,
I wonder if there is a way to make one of these sticky.

They're working on a forum FAQ. See the sticky notice at the top.

The one thing I'd like to know is if there is a way to do line by line debugging with breakpoints with PHP on the Mac.

PHP has pretty good errors, it will tell you what line the error occured on, so you can figure out what you need to chage pretty easily.

Yes, howeve when you want to watch what's going in the vars, you have to do a bunch of echos. That's 1970's debugging.

I KNOW you can do it - I've seen support for it, but I'm curious if/who has done it on the Mac.
