Hey again
I was looking for an elegant, graphically Quartzy News/RSS Ticker for my desktop. Didn't really find one. Maybe one exists, let me know.
I found
Faust's Friend , which is adequate, but it doesn't IMHO have that OS X feel, which you find in products such as
NewsMac. (Well, except for the toolbar, which seems 'fake', RealBasic?)
PowerTicker, a stock market one, is another pretty good implementation, thought the text flickers. Tsk tsk.
A perfect (for me) little News Ticker would:
- Scale down to a minimal window, with options for border and transparency.
- Scroll very smoothly, atleast without flicker
- Use the Font Panel
- Allow grabbing and scrolling back
- Perhaps allow dragging and storing interesting news headlines into URI icons (think Clutter) for later reading and reference.
- Pop up an abstract of the news item when clicked, instead of directly opening an URI in a browser.
- Have a friendly interface and library of some popular and interesting RSS and other feeds.
What do you use? Which headline/rss readers do you consider well done? Would a ticker be usable, fun, productive etc.? Would it be a nice Cocoa exercise for someone?
