Ok...I was watching the Adopting Aqua video on ADC from WWDC 2003. When the guy gets to his "What about Metal" section he says that Mail is no longer Metal, it was never Metal?! I have no problem with the Metal UI but this guy just wasn't making sense when it came to this point in the presentation.

Maybe he meant Sherlock or something.

Eh...he showed a slide that showed all the metal apps then one that showed mail and he said that. Its rather funny when he mentions the new finder is metal you hear the dissatisfaction in the audience he then tells then to calm down.

Yes - I noticed the "Mail is no longer Metal" comment - I assume that it was a slip of the tongue.

Did you hear in the stream how they justified the Finder going metal? They added another reason to the HIGs for metal - "If it has a playlist-style list on the left."

wow - great.

I did hear that little amendment to the HIG, if thats true then about every app in Panther should be metal because Apple is using that type of playlist side panel UI everywhere. From Sherlock to Disk Utility even Xcode; can you imagine the uproar if Xcode was metal.

And he didn't explain why Safari and iChat are metal... I e-mailed him about that. I wonder if he'll reply

Yeah, it's one thing that metal is appearing everywhere. It's another thing that Apple tries to justify the move as somehow principled.

I thought the rest of the presentation was good, except for the bit about file extensions. I still loath them with all my being.
