Hi

Often when I do minor alterations to my website, it causes my whole page to shift slightly out of alignment with the other pages.

You can see what I mean by going to http://www.spinesandleaves.com

Once there, hit the "rent" button and then hit any other button and back to the "rent" page.

You will see that all the other pages maintain a consistent height but the "rent" page is slightly out.

Would anyone be able to tell me what may be the cause of this and what bit of the code is doing this.

Cheers

Jay

No, I haven't fixed it. At my end, I still get the problem. Just so you know, it is very very slight - only about a tenth of an inch out.

cheers,

Ive just realized that the problem only exists on IE5.

In icab and Netscape, the site displays fine.

It also occurs on IE 6 for Windows. You've got a lot of tables, and I looked through them real fast but didn't see any glaring differences. It's not too big a deal, but if you want to fix teh descrepency, I'd suggest setting a border on the different tables, so you can see if it's the text having a different margin or if a table is a different size.

Also check to see if you might have an extra tag somewhere, like an extra <p> sitting open. There isn't a DOCTYPE in your documents, so the browsers you mentioned are likely not going to be too picky about something like that.

I didn't have time to really examine everything right now, but that's two things to check. Post back with any results, or lack thereof.

I think it's all the SPACER tags!

It's Netscape only and nowadays you very rarely see a page that uses them.

Use a transparent gif to help keep your table layout.
Also it's better If you try and make the content dictate the size of your table rather than specifying width and height (especially height!) for every cell.

Thanks for your replys.

I'll have to confess, I do not write a single line of code. I rely solely on golive to do everything for me.

So that is to day to piot that all those spacer tags have been generated because I just don't have the time to learn exactly what Im doing. As you can see by my site, I am a botany specialist who enjoys using his mac when his got time.

So again thanks and I will try to go through and see if I can make heads of your tips.

Cheers,

Jay

Wow piot

You are very kind.

Ive copied the code which has showed me a way to lay out websites for myself which is much much better than what I have been doing in the past.

I will apply the code during the week to my site which I am sure will fix the problems ive been having.

Thank you very very much.

Hey Pinto

Fixed up the site today.

Really good to stop using the layout grid from go live.

And as expected, everything is fixed.

Again, many thanks.
