Hi -- THought I'd browse here, to check out info on web development software and sites. My 13-year-old wants to makeher own web page -- and I'm thinking just getting a .mac membership might be the way to go. I don't even know which domains might be good, and even if a site costs $8 a month, that's nearly the same as a .mac membership. Does this sound logical? If I did this, would creating a web page be fairly straightfoward for her? Would she be happy with pages she's able to create, or is mostly just photos -- or would I need some of the software that I read about here? And finally, how is .mac for others to access the page?

Thanks in advance. I did do some searching, but am still somewhat confused.

.Mac will do what you want. I would go with it without hesitation. The only folks that complain about .Mac are those that need special extensions or the ability to run .cgi scripts or php. I used to host about five sites on my .Mac account. It was reliable, and the integrationg with the Mac OS is great (and it gets even better in Panther.)

With .Mac you can use Apple's tools to make web pages, such as Homepage and iPhoto, or you can upload your own files. So as your daughter gains experience and knowledge, she can move up to more involved processes.

There's another thread right now asking about software, and I would second it's reccomendation of Freeway Express.

Good luck.
We need less Democrats and Republicans, and more people that think for themselves.
