I am a complete newb to hosting forums, or even creating a website. Let me just tell you where I stand, so you know what I'm working with.

I know nothing about MySQL.
Nothing about PHP.
Nothing about hosting.
Nothing about nothing (mmm, double-negative).

Don't rub it in.

However...I can still be saved. You may know KingJobs, and he has helped me along quite a lot with installing YaBB SE forums onto my paid hosting HostUltra site.

This is what we have accomplished so far (I of course have my site and hosting going, and I downloaded YaBB SE. Note that the steps listed below are all that I have done so far. I haven't toggled with MySQL settings or whatever it is you have to do else. This is starting from scratch, or at least what HostUltra initially gives you, and then working from there with the steps I did below):

1. I created a database for the forums.

2. I showed KingJobs my connection strings, and apparently he "approved" of them.

3. I went into my file manager, and from there I went into public_html.

4. I created a new folder in public_html called 'forums'.

5. I went into the newly-created 'forums' folder and uploaded two files: install.php and yse153.ya, which of course were from my YaBB SE download.

That's all I have accomplished so far, and that was only because of KingJobs' very detailed, step-by-step instructions. By step-by-step, I mean, "Now click this, then click that, then go in here, click 'browse', double-click this, click 'upload', click this, go out, click that, go into here..."

That's a horrible inconvenience for myself and KingJobs (my limited knowledge of what I'm doing), but I just seriously wanted to get these forums set up. Once I do, everything will be fine.

Thus, if you could provide step-by-step instructions for me, that'd be nice. If you are kind enough to do so and willing to spend your time posting something like that, I'd greatly appreciate it. I was reading some other instructions that assumed I was not totally clueless, but in fact I am totally clueless.

But I noticed it saying to CHMOD the 'yabbse' directory to 777. I'm assuming this is talking about the folder I created in public_html, called 'forums'. KingJobs never told me to do that yet, however, and I'm not quite sure what to do/how to do it.

Also, it said to upload the install.php file in ASCII mode. Then it said to upload the yse153.ya file in BINARY mode, or something relative to that sort.

As you can see, I need a lot of help, but if you are willing to give your time and give me the instructions, I am certainly more than willing to follow them!

Thanks,
- Schiz
