well, it's getting to that time of year again. my madra domain is due for renewal at the end of the month.
at the moment it's registered with network solutions, who [every time i've had any dealings with them] have turned out to be the biggest bunch of incompetent twats it's ever been my misfortune to cross emails with; and a company offering the shoddy kind of customer service only a monopoly can get away with. of course there was nothing i could do about it when netsol were the only game in town, but now that domain registration has been de-regulated, i can vote with my feet and take my custom elsewhere.
mind you, in the spirit of "better the devil you know..." i'm loathe to entrust my domain to some new upstart co. which turns out to be even more incompetent, so has anybody had any experiences [good or bad] with these new domain registrars that they could share with me. especially relevant would be anyone who's transferred a domain held by netsol to another registrar. how painless [or painful] a procedure was it?

I have had excellent experiences with GoDaddy.com, and they are pretty cheap too. Atleast as a registrar, I don't use any other of their services.

dotster is also decent. I personally like any OpenSRS based reseller - opensrs.org for more info. I use thenic.com for all my domains now. Just be glad to be rid of NetSol, they are by far the worst I've ever used.

I've only ever used gkg.net. Never had any problems with them, though I've also never experienced anything above and beyond from them. Then again, they are just a registrar. What can you really ask? Pretty cheap, too, although not the cheapest.

if you're in britain then www.freeparking.co.uk is the best.
i've always parked my domains there, you can set up free url forwarding, or even modify the host record yourself to point to your server.
It's cool. check it out

I've always used Just The Name. No particular reason why - they've always worked for me and I've seen no reason to switch.

What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

As an ISP, we've migrated everything (500+ domains) to Directnic
because of the reasons that you describe.
VERY smooth/painless migration.
...awesome account management tools!
