Is it possible to have two separate message boards on the same database? I have a MySQL database called "talk.chrislow.org" which currently serves my general phpBB forums, but I need to set up an entirely separate board and was wondering if I need to set up another database or if they can both run off "talk"?

Thanks for your help.

you can run as many as you want off the same database. you just need to make sure that none of the table names are the same. [and of course there'll be a bit of a performance hit running two forums from one DB, but how much of one will depend on how busy your sites are].

Thanks for the reply. By making sure none of the table names are the same, is that something I have to consciously do or will the comp-oo-tors do it for me?

Thanks again,
Chris

from what i can remember from phpBB setup, you're asked what prefix you want the tables to have. by default, it's "phpbb_" yeah? so, just make your second board have a totally different prefix.

for clarification, let's say you're hosting a God board, and a Satan board. the easy thing to do would be to prefix them as such:
"god_" & "satan_"

there's not much chance of confusing them that way. as madra said though, server load will come into play too.

Would the server load be any less if the 2 PHPBB boards were on seperate databases on the same server? (as opposed to using more tables in a single database)
