So what gives? Safari (still 1.0 with Jaguar at least) is NOT happy at Apple / .mac

1) Redraw of all the pages seems slooowwww. Worse than IE 5.2; Even the simple log-in page is (irregularly) very sluggard in loading the graphics for buttons, etc. What technology is Apple using on their servers to so effectively degrade Safari performance? Any improvement in Panthar/Safari 1.1?

2) Clicking "Log Out" in Home page for .mac redisplays the Home page STILL showing the option to "log out" (where IE then correctly gives me the opportunity to "log in").

I don't think the designers of apple.com frequent this forum, so maybe try a different one. Like Mac OS X, for example.

Thanks - but I'm mostly interested from developer's standpoint - understanding what are the limits of Safari; understanding what (?cutting-edge) methods Apple is employing that undermine Safari.

[I'll leave it up the the Apple.com developers to make their own decisions whether to they care to consider Safari performance. ]

if anything, you should contact Zeldman about it, seeing as he's been hired to run the site these days.

i'm sure he has plans to strip that code right down, so it loads up much quicker.

From what I've read, Zeldman's just an advisor, as is Douglas Bowman from StopDesign. While they are supervising, Apple's web group is still doing the work.

I'm pretty sure that they're aware of the deficiencies of Apple's web site. It is hard to make it load as fast as anyone would like when compatibility with old, crappy browsers has to be maintained.

Apple's site has to look good to everyone, especially users of Win IE, so I wouldn't expect a lean, mean XHTML 1.1 Strict document anytime soon. It would be nice though, and I'm sure that improvements will be made.
